The 2010 Commonwealth Games are the nineteenth edition of the Commonwealth Games, and the ninth to be held under that name. The Games are scheduled to be held in Delhi, India between 3 October and 14 October 2010. The games will be the largest multi-sport event conducted to date in Delhi and India generally, which has previously hosted the Asian Games in 1951 and 1982. The opening ceremony is scheduled to take place at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Delhi. It will also be the first time the Commonwealth Games will be held in India and the second time the event has been held in Asia (after 1998 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia).

The 2010 Commonwealth Games is scheduled to be held at New Delhi the capital of India. The Commonwealth Games are made to designed to make the economic versatility and promoting the well being, brotherhood, democracy and human rights.

The Commonwealth Games is a multinational, multi-sport event which features competitions involving thousands of elite athletes from members of the Commonwealth of Nations. Organised every four years, they are the third-largest multi-sport event in the world, after the Summer Olympic Games and the Asian Games.

As well as many Olympic sports, the Games also include some sports that are played mainly in Commonwealth countries, such as lawn bowls, rugby sevens, gymnastics and netball.[1] The Games are overseen by the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF), which also controls the sporting programme and selects the host cities. The host city is selected from across the Commonwealth, with eighteen cities in seven countries having hosted it.

The event was first held in 1930 under the title of the British Empire Games. The event was renamed as the British Empire and Commonwealth Games in 1954, the British Commonwealth Games in 1970, and gained its current title in 1978. Only six teams have attended every Commonwealth Games: Australia, Canada, England, New Zealand, Scotland and Wales. Australia has been the highest scoring team for ten games, England for seven and Canada for one.

There are currently 54 members of the Commonwealth of Nations, and 71 teams participate in the Games. The four Home Nations of the United Kingdom – England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland – send separate teams to the Commonwealth Games (unlike at the Olympic Games, where the United Kingdom sends a single team), and individual teams are also sent from the British Crown dependencies – Guernsey, Jersey and the Isle of Man – and many of the British overseas territories. The Australian external territory of Norfolk Island also sends its own team, as do the Cook Islands and Niue, two states in free association with New Zealand.

The most recent games were in 2006 in Melbourne, Australia. The next edition will be held in 2010 in Delhi, India.

The federation of Commonwealth Games
The Commonwealth Games is the multinational sports event that is organized at every four years. The Commonwealth Federation is the body that is responsible for the Commonwealth Games. The 2010 Commonwealth Games is scheduled to be held in New Delhi in which commands a population of more than 13 millions. Before this in 2006 the Commonwealth Games held at Melbourne with having the poplation of 3.7 millions.

Preparations for the Commonwealth Games
The Vice President of Commonwealth Games Federation Raja Randhir Singh has expressed concern for Delhi and was being scheduled in forming an organizing committee in January 2005. The Indian Sports Minister will be the head of the apex committee for conducting the games while the Indian Olympic Association president Suresh Kalmadi will head the organizing committee. The total budget of hosting the Commonwealth Games is US$ 1.6 million and the amount excludes the non sports like infrastructure development like airport, roads and other structure. In 2010 the Commonwealth Games are scheduled to held at New Delhi the capital of India.

Infrastructure

Delhi has already many international features of the modern and a well planned city. Delhi has always the higher influx of the tourists from all over the world.
A new Games Village is being prepared by the private company Emaar-MGF along the east bank of the Yamuna River. The total expenditure of the project is USD 230.7 million. Occupies a total area of 63.5 hectare (158.4 acre), the Games Village is situated near latest architectural venture of Delhi, the Swaminarayan Akshardham Temple. A low rise medium development with a possible capacity for 8,500 athletes and officials, the Delhi Games Village is going to be majestic. It is assured by a senior official of the DDA that the Games Village will be completed by December 2009.

Wrapped in dense green natural sides, the new villages of commonwealth offer relaxing and soothing environment for the athletes and officials. Athletes and Officials from all sports will reside in this village. These villages are meant to offer smooth and luxurious facility to the athlete. The development is going on in full swing.

Government guarantees that the work on sports venues will be completed by December 2009. The Games Village will be completed by August 2010 and civic infrastructure in phases by September 2010.

What is the total expenditure on Commonwealth Games 2010/CWG 2010?

The total expenditure done by the Government of India is nearly $17.5 billion that will not only modernize the complete capital but will also offer adequate infrastructure to the guests coming to the country. Apart from the capital investments, the government has also offered tax sops to hotels and resorts for Commonwealth games. This will help in bridging the gap between the accommodation facilities and the rise in demand during the time when the games are being held.
