Saina, Gagan Narang and Abhinav Bindra top bidders for gold

TOP INDIAN players are gunning for gold medals in the Asian Games 2010 that starts from today.
All the top order names, Abhinav Bindra,Gagan Narang, Saina Nehwal, Mary Kom and many more are part of the 600+ contingent India has sent for the Games.
Saina Nehwal is confident and in a good shape that she will bag some yellow metal in these Games. Her most difficult competitor is the world’s number 1 Xin Wang of China. Xin has a 2-0 head to head record over Saina, but her latest victory over the Indian was way back on Jan 22, 2010 at the Malaysian Super Series.
Let’s hope Saina will be our answer to the drought of gold medals in badminton. Ever since badminton made its debut at the Jakarta Asian Games in 1962, no Indian has managed win any gold medal, despite winning several bronze medals.
At the shooting arena, on the other hand, India has two gems. Abhinav Bindra and Gagan Narangare both shooting stars and confident than ever post-CWG.
Although, 14 golds were bagged during the CWG but al is not well as this is Asiad and competition is lot tougher.

Bindra will come face to face with Zhu Quinan, the man he beat to win Olympic gold in 10m air-rifle gold two years ago in Beijing, while Narang would also be a contender in the same field. Another sport that is bound to gather attention and will be interesting to watch is Hockey. India-Pakistan matches are being anxiously awaited and India hopes to bag medals there too.
In the last Asiad, China had won 164 of the 426 gold medals and topped the Games with a good margin. India on the other hand finished eighth with a total of 54 medals. This time however, with 101 medals in CWG, India is hoping to land in top 5.
With sportspersons in top form and more than ever excitement in tow, India sure is carrying a lot of expectations on its shoulders. People back are anticipating a better performance than the lastAsian Games and India should be richer with some more gold medals after 27th November.
